Target Audience: Middle School Educators - The Training and Technical Assistance Center at Old Dominion University (T-TAC ODU) is seeking middle school teachers serving struggling readers and students with disabilities to participate in a virtual 2-day training event. This training is designed for teachers who work with older students who have significant difficulties in foundational literacy. It will help you to target learning gaps through emergent and beginning reading instruction.
Workshop Focus: Teachers will receive professional
development in evidence-based literacy instruction that focuses on the emergent
and beginner stages. This workshop will provide teachers with an understanding
of reading development and provide practice with effective teaching strategies
for phonemic awareness, phonics, and word recognition. The institute presenter
will provide information on structured reading, a variety of assessment tools,
learning activities and implementation guidance for addressing the needs of
middle school students.
