FAQ’s

What age group do I sign up for?

Please enroll in the age group you have participated in over the last 9 months.  If you are a 12U and also play Middle School Baseball, you may choose your division, however please note the middle school division will have players up through 14U.

Can I play on the same team with my travel baseball teammates?

Team assignment is random and based on the primary and secondary positions you register.  In most cases, when possible, we will keep you with your travel or school teammates.  Part of the showcase experience is the opportunity to play with and make new friends through the baseball experience.

How does the batting order and defensive assignments work in the games?

The defensive playing order is based on the primary and secondary positions you register with.  Players will rotate between those positions and everyone will play in the field an equal number of innings. Players may be asked to play 3 or 4 positions based on the make-up of each team.  On the batting order, it is generated by a computer program for each team.  To equally weight the batting order, game two will begin with the person that ended the game on deck as the first batter of the game.

What are the Golden Arm and Road Runner Contests?

These are two very popular contests that are featured at Cooperstown Dreams Park.  The Golden Arm is an event designed to measure throwing accuracy from a measured distance.  The Road Runner contest is a timed run from home plate around all three bases and back to home plate.

Who are the coaches for the teams?

The last thing anyone needs to worry about is who the coach will be.   They operate with pre-assigned batting and defensive orders, given to them by the event directors.  If anything, they are traffic cops for the game, there for management, encouragement and leadership of each team.  In many cases, they may be current or former college baseball players, middle school coaches, high school coaches or other adults that Don Mason and Tripp Roakes have selected due to their commitment and support of our joint missions.  Again — last thing you need to worry about, we have run these type events for over a decade and understand what works best for everyone.  Bring your chair, sit back, relax and enjoy watching your kid showcase with his teammates.  I can promise you the kids are having fun, we want you to have fun as well.  The kids also like it a lot better when their parents are there to support and not become part of the action or argue calls, etc :)     The Greater Charlotte Youth Baseball Summer Classic is designed to be a stress-free, fun, relaxing day of baseball for the kids and families. If you prefer stressful situations, arguing with umpires, embarrassing your children and yourself, this event is not for you  :)
